The Kidney Foundation Bangladesh Sylhet Branch and the Hospital is a nonprofit organization to provide prevention and treatment of kidney disease. The center will play a major role in creating awareness in public, training health care workers, conducting research etc. The hospital will be furnished with most modern equipment and is committed to provide highest quality services for kidney care to everyone including lower income people. The center will establish an International Standard Training Centre for updating knowledge and technology with the help of renowned specialists from USA, UK and all over the world. There is no private owner or shareholder of this institution. All the profits and grants will be reinvested for improving the services of the foundation.

Introduction:

Kidney Foundation Bangladesh Sylhet Branch is a dream project of Professor Ziauddin Ahmed, who is a kidney specialist since 1986 and Professor of Medicine and Nephrology at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA.   He is the son of Shaheed Professor Shamsuddin Ahmed FRCS who was professor and chief surgery at Sylhet Medical College when he was killed by Pakistani army while treating patients inside the hospital during Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971. The foundation and the Hospital will be a nonprofit organization to provide prevention and treatment of kidney disease. The center also will play a major role in creating awareness in public, training health care workers, conducting research etc. Professor Harun Ur Rashid, Founder President of Kidney Foundation, Dhaka and his committee has agreed to support as a branch of “Kidney Foundation Dhaka, Bangladesh. They will provide all the medical and technical support for efficiently running the center. Kidney Foundation, Dhaka also will work as a partner to establish an International Standard Kidney Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in the land provided by a donor from Sylhet.  As outlined by the scheme of “Public and Private Partnership” of the Govt of People’s Republic of Bangladesh for not for profit institution where government will provide 80% cost of the building. President of Kidney Foundation Dhaka will spearhead the project along with the team of Kidney Foundation Sylhet. This will be a not for profit Kidney center and only goal is to provide sustainable state of art kidney care. There is no private owner or share holder of this institution. All the profits and grants will be reinvested for improving the services of the foundation.

National Kidney Foundation Sylhet ; The Kidney Center and Dialysis unit

A 12000 square feet building at Shahjalal Uposhohor has been rented and fully renovated with modern design for a state of art dialysis center, outpatient clinic and a modern medical laboratory. The Kidney foundation activity already has been started since September 15th 2018. The aim is to provide international standard kidney care for minimum cost and also affordable to the disadvantaged people. It will provide substantial subsidies to the people who may not be able to pay. The dialysis center is renovated with an exclusive international design, clean, well lighted open space with highly trained professional staff under strict supervision.   It has excellent new dialysis machines, best water treatment plant, expert nursing and a full time onsite physician with years of training in Dhaka national Kidney foundation hospital.  Dr. Nazmus Sakib a renowned and well respected Kidney specialist is the medical director of the Kidney center. Now we have 19 dialysis machine providing 3 shifts dialysis session. About 150 patients are getting the discount services amongst 40% is free. A cost to cost basis rate of per session dialysis is Tk. 1,560/-.

The outpatient center is designed to implement all the strategies available to diagnose early and also slow the progression of existing chronic kidney disease. The services will be provided to manage Hypertension , Chronic Kidney disease, Urinary tract infection, Kidney stones, Prostate problems , blood in the urine, Protein in the urine, Electrolytes disorders, Acid base problems , Fluid management , Anemia management, Metabolic bone disease and hyperparathyroidism management, Nutritional counselling and management.

In future the center will provide services in the management of Kidney transplantation, Urological Disorders, Vascular services.

Telemedicine:

A telemedicine facility will be started soon where Kidney specialists from Dhaka Kidney foundation and Nephrology and Urology specialists form USA, UK will be available for consultation in management of diagnostically difficult cases.

Medical laboratory:

A most modern laboratory is established to provide services for many blood tests for many medical conditions with lower costs.

Patient first: This center is dedicated for providing best patient care with dignity and respect Special attention will be provided for international standard of medical ethics and patient satisfaction and public relations.  The Clinic will ensure support, guidance and education for both patients and families so that the best clinical outcomes and ongoing quality of life can be achieved.

Multispecialty Clinics:

The multispecialty clinics will provide care for Hypertension,  Diabetes, heart condition, cholesterol management , pulmonary illness, etc This center also dedicated to provide training to Physicians, Nurses, technicians and for the main hospital and also for the other institutions.  Monthly medical seminar will be organized for local physicians and nurses.

The Kidney Disease Prevention Program

A program to prevent kidney diseases by increasing awareness and early detection for timely management is undertaken. An outreach program will be launched by sending health care workers to the communities and also collecting health information from other NGO’s  or Government clinics for appropriate guidance. Dr. Mushfique Chowdhury is the director of the Kidney disease prevention care.

Public participation:

The center welcomes public participation to support the goal of the project by being member of the Foundation, generous donation towards facility expenses, outreach program or sponsoring treatment of any patient by donation or zakat fund etc. The center is dedicated to improve the health care of Sylhet by an effort in integrating health delivery by complimenting for improving the standard of care and avoiding unhealthy competition. This will be orchestrated by sharing resources, increasing trust, and assuring quality of health care in every other clinic or hospitals in the area.  

Sylhet Kidney Foundation Hospital and research center:

The main Hospital will be a project under PPP (Public Private Partnership) program for a 150 bed hospital and research centre. The Hospital plan and  project profile has been submitted to the Govt for the  grant   A 60 decimal land on the main road of Badahaghat near Shahjalal University approximate cost about  3/4 crore is already donated by one businessman Mr. Zubayar Ahmed Chowdhury. By end of this 2019 the construction of the main hospital will begin and hopefully will be completed by end of 2022. The hospital will be furnished with most modern equipment and is committed to provide highest quality services for kidney care to everyone including lower income people. The center will establish an International Standard Training Centre for updating knowledge and technology with the help of renowned specialists from USA, UK and all over the world.

Integrated health service and medical education in Sylhet

 An effort will be ultimately made to integrate the whole health care delivery system in Sylhet so the people can get best health care in all specialties in Sylhet. The effort will be provided to involve everyone for training and ensure technology support to improve the standard of all health care delivery in all health care institutions in Sylhet. This will be a unique model how local medical institutions and population if come together can have a positive impact on health care of people, avoid patients seeking health care abroad, improve trust between patients and health care team, secure transparency and develop ethical standard etc.

International conference on Kidney Disease: A International Conference of kidney disease was held at our centre last 01 & 02 February 2019. It was one of the best conferences so far held in Sylhet. About 100 doctors with consultant from outside attended. This year 18 and 19 November 2019, a Scientific Conference, training session will arrange where 3 x USA, 4 x UK specialist will attend and conduct training to doctors and nurses. Prof. Harun Ur Rashid of Kidney Foundation Dhaka, Prof. Muhibur Rahman and Prof. Azad Khan of will also attend.

Kidney Foundation Sylhet Hospital

Project: We have planned a 10 storied Hospital on the main road of Badaghat. We have got approval for a six kstoried hospital from “Samaj Kallan Ministry” with the approval of “Planning Minister”. The total cost of 06 (six) storied Hospital estimated for 24.99 Crore. Out of this fund we will pay 20% and Govt will pay 80%. The project is approved and work started to accommodate emegency patient, ICU, 4 x OT, One Modern Laboratory, Burnt Unit and Cancer Screening and Support Centre which are missing in Sylhet. Govt has agreed but the additional construction and developent will be managed by the trustees from donor. For developt of 10 storied building with all facilities following fund estimated will be needed:

a. Building Construction 12000 sft Ground Floor + 10 storied with a basement

total 144000 sft @ of 2500/- per sft = 36.0 Crore.

b. 60 bed dialysis with water treatment plant @ 12000000 x 60 = 7.2 Crore.

c. One Modern Laboratory and necessary equipment preliminary = 10.0 Crore.

d. Oxygen Plant + 4 x OT = 4.0 Crore.

e. Training and Research Centre with Administrater Block = 2.0 Crore.

f. Essential Staff Quarter / Nurses Living Accomodation = 3.0 Crore

About = 55.0 Crore Initial Investment

Expansion of the Project: To address esential services of needy people of Sylhet area this Hospital need a International Standard Laboratory to support subsidised and free treatment/ dialysis of Kidney diseases which is almost spreading all over and created crisis in this sector. Due to new penademic, a Issolated Care Centre with High Flow Oxygen supply is also high demand. We are planning a quality Laboratories with full complience and an Isolated Centre for treatment of COVID patient. We have been given about 33 decimal of Land by Wakfa State and another 40 decimals nearby. If we get good donor we can plan further expassion of our present project.

We would like to draw attention for joint partnership for our expanded existing project and also a separate Laboratories and Isolation Centre. A Burnt Unit is essential as there is no facilities exist us greater Sylhet and also Eastern India. We hope with our very sincere honest team we can get appropriate partner for further development. We have already spent 7.0 Crore assistance from our own donor and resources.
